We’ve changed our name.

VENTURE CYCLES-VENTURE SCOOTERS
Yes they are the same business but now we’ve changed our name to Venture Cycles. We’ve always done a lot more bikes & e bike conversions than scooters so it’s time for a name change.
We’ve talked about it for a while & now it’s happened.
This also ties in with an exciting new chapter in our business, with the release of our own bike brand. SWITCH BIKES are due for release before Xmas & offer a new approach to the e bike market in New Zealand. So watch this space for more info.
We will still do a selected range of scooters & continue to service all products we’ve sold.

New motor from CYC. The Photon Pro

Hi Folks
Here’s the motor we’ve been waiting for. The all new CYC Photon Pro.
It shares the same chassis as the Gen 2 Photon but has a longer motor assembly & with the correct battery can produce up to 4000watts & 180nm of torque.
You can see the differences in size between the Gen1 & Gen2 Photons
We have these in stock now ready to go so be the first person in NZ to get your hands on one, you won’t be disappointed.

Time for a short break

26000km Bafang motor service

Hi Folks.
it’s been a while since I checked my trusty Bafang BBS02B motor in my road bike. It had developed a creaking noise under load which I presumed was the motor moving in the frame so I thought I better deal to it. It’s now done just under 26000km so I’d do a bearing/clutch check while I was at it as the last one was at 11000km. After removing the bottom bracket axle & inspecting everything it was in great shape & I replaced the two thrust bearings for the sake of it because it was apart. These motors just keep going & I can’t see why it won’t do another 26000km without a problem.
The motor was still really tight & after putting everything back together it still creaked! So I removed the battery which hadn’t . been removed for 3 years & greased the lugs that slide into the mount. That fixed the creaking instantly so the motor got a service for the sake of it & the bike is silent again ready for more miles. It’s very easy to blame the motors for unusual noises coming from our bikes but 99% of the time it’s something else. I should have known better. 😆😆
I recommend that the motor bearing service is done at the 3000km mark & then every 10000km after that. Happy riding everyone.

CYC GEN 2 Photons have arrived.

We’ve been waiting for these awesome new motors & have landed a small first shipment which is available now. I’ve been testing one at our local Te Miro tracks which I know very well & I think we now have the holy grail of e bike motors. The Gen 1 motor has been great but suffered from overheating when used hard but the Gen 2 has no issues with this. Maximum temperature running it on full power of 1200watts (they can do 2000watts) was 60 degrees whereas the Gen 1 would have been over 90 degrees & dropping power to cool down.
The 135nm of torque lifts the front wheel coming out of corners & low cadence torque has improved greatly. I love it & can’t wait to do more riding & racing with it. You’re welcome to come & test both Photons if you need convincing!
